Purchase 25 gallons of pool or RV antifreeze. This antifreeze is non-toxic.
Stage 1: Drain the Modpool
- Drain the Modpool of all water. Click here to learn how
- Once you have followed those draining steps, drain the remaining water in your heater.
-
400k BTU – remove the drain plug. Then tighten is back on when water stops draining
- 250k BTU - same as 400k BTU (above picture)
- 11kW - no extra draining features
-
400k BTU – remove the drain plug. Then tighten is back on when water stops draining
- Drain the pool pump by removing the thumb-twist drain plugs. Make sure you put them back in when the water stops coming out
Stage 2: Fill the Pool Suctions and Intakes
- Locate the actuator valve (newer models will be taped blue). This valve is after one of the bottom suction intakes. It will be quarter turned. Please turn it “on” by making it perpendicular to the pipe
- Pour antifreeze into the skimmer until it fills. Then run the Modpool on “pool mode”
- Stop filling when antifreeze comes out of the black suction intakes at the bottom. This means the intake pipes have sufficient antifreeze in them to combat any residual water freezing damage
Stage 3: Filling the White Propulsion Jets
- Turn off the actuator valve (handle in-line with pipe) from Stage 2: Step 1. Doing this blocks-in the current antifreeze, and will redirect the next antifreeze into the white propulsion jets
- Pour more antifreeze into the skimmer
- Once you see antifreeze coming out of white propulsion jets, turn off the pool
- Open the pump’s lid and see if it’s full of antifreeze. If not full, pour more directly into the pump until full. Then put the lid back on
Stage 4: Filling Both Levels of Body Jets
- Once the pump is full of antifreeze, switch to “spa” mode and run the Modpool
- Once you see antifreeze coming out of the bottom row of body jets, turn off the Modpool
- Close the valves of the bottom body jets.
Do this by turning the body jet valve clockwise until it stops
Please Note:
- Turning all the way clockwise closes it, but may still leak a bit
- Turning counter-clockwise opens it again (stopping at resistance point)
- Turning counter-clockwise past the resistance point starts removing it for maintenance
- Turn the pump back on
- Wait until antifreeze comes out of the remaining top body jets.
Then turn off the Modpool and close the valves
- Congratulations, you have successfully winterized your Modpool!
